George Louis Vilfordi, Jr., the patriarch of the Vilfordi Family, died on June 27, 2016, at the age of 91. Born to George L. Vilfordi, Sr., and Helen Schell Vilfordi on April 4, 1925, he attended Bradfield Elementary School and graduated from Highland Park High School. George’s working career began at the age of 13 at W.A. Green and Company where he demonstrated the values of integrity and commitment to excellence that would author his entire life. In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy, serving as Lieutenant JG in the Pacific until his honorable discharge in 1946. Upon returning home, two significant events occurred. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. More importantly, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Hackman. They were married in December 1948 and had a wonderful lifetime together that spanned 67 years.
After earning his degree, George worked for the National Cash Register Company as a Dallas area salesman for over nine years. His next career move would be his last—he joined Uarco Inc. where he worked for over 36 years, holding key and increasingly responsible positions as salesman, Dallas District Manager and Southwest Regional Manager. As an extraordinarily loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother, George---or “Papa”--has left a lifetime heritage of doing great works and service for his family, for those less fortunate and for the environment. At their summer residence in Minnesota, George taught his children and grandchildren the art of fishing, boating and respect for nature. For many years, his time and talents were abundantly given in numerous leadership positions on various boards dedicated to the preservation of area lakes. Locally, he volunteered for North Dallas Shared Ministries for many years.
This most respected and beloved man’s legacy continues, as he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Vilfordi, his four children, Christopher Vilfordi and wife Alicia, Claudia Vilfordi, George Vilfordi III and wife Lynda, Jennifer Dove and husband Timothy Dove, and sister-in-law, Shirley Vilfordi. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Eugene Vilfordi.
On Tuesday, July 5, at 6:30 pm, there will be a Family Visitation followed by the Rosary at 7 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX 75225.
