Jerre grew up in Dallas, Texas, and, in the 1940s, moved to Ohio, where she married her first husband, Harry Aiken. When Harry passed away in 1963, Jerre and her children moved back to Dallas to live closer to family. Jerre married John Lewis in 1974.
Jerre lived a full life with many and diverse interests. She was a Cowboys fan, actively participated on a women's bowling league, and exercised with friends regularly. She traveled frequently, to California, Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii to visit family, and on multiple cruises to Mexico with family members. When she retired at the age of 86, she was the oldest H&R Block employee, having worked there for 26 years as a seasonal receptionist.
Jerre was preceded in death by her husband John Lewis, her parents, Myrtle and Robert Reid, and her brothers and sisters, Walter Nelson, Ernest Nelson, Charles Nelson, and Marge Butler.
Survivors are children Larry Aiken and partner Drew Meyers, Linda Ellason and husband Steve, Karen Horvath and husband Jerry, Raymond Lewis and wife Bonnie, and John Lewis and wife Beth. Jerre's seven grandchildren are Christopher Ellason, Nikki Ellason, Jessica Horvath, Lindsay Horvath, Colt Horvath, Hayden Lewis, and Spencer Lewis.
Jerre was an independent, outgoing, loving, and caring person who eagerly sought out the company of others, and she made an important and valuable contribution to the lives of all who were lucky enough to get to know her. We will all miss her generosity, her smiles, and her seemingly infinite capacity to love and care for her family and friends.
