Geraldyne Coleman Bruce passed away peacefully at age 87, on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Presbyterian Village North, Dallas, where she had been a resident for the past eighteen years. Jerry was born in Brackettville, Texas, to parents Richard and Blanche, where she experienced many memorable times on her grandparents’ dairy farm.
Jerry was raised in Harlingen, Texas. Following her graduation from Harlingen High School, she earned a BBA degree from Texas A & I, in Kingsville. An excellent student, she was named to Alpha Chi, a national collegiate honor society, and completed her degree in three years. After graduation, Jerry worked in Houston before embarking on her chosen career – motherhood.
Moving from Houston to Corpus Christi, San Antonio, and Fort Worth, Jerry’s family landed in Dallas in 1964. She remained in Dallas for the rest of her life, except for several years that she spent in Arkansas helping her widowed brother care for his sons.
Jerry was a loving, gentle, patient, and devoted mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She was active in many church and school activities during her lifetime. She loved to crochet and was an accomplished seamstress who could design and construct any garment or home décor item. She was also an avid painter, favoring painting portraits of her family, friends, and their pets. Jerry was also involved with many creative groups at PVN, where she had many friends. She was a tireless giver who spent countless hours making life better for others.
Jerry is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Laurel and Jim, and Carol and Steve; two sons and their wives, Dale and Rachelle, and Daryl and Beth; two grandsons, Spencer and Slater; two step-granddaughters, Jessica and Jennifer; a step-great-grandson, Lincoln; a brother, Richard; and eleven nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Gilda and Betty, and a brother, John.
A celebration of Jerry’s life is being organized. Details will be announced when plans are finalized. Any memorial donations you wish to make may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Alz.org) or to the Alzheimer’s Group or Memory Care Group of your choosing.
