Gertrude (Trudy) Garrett Kennedy was born on February 11, 1931 and passed away on June 11, 2013 at the age of 82.She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Gertrude Munger Garrett and Melvin Miller Garrett. The Family moved to Dallas in 1936. She graduated from the Hockaday School in 1948, Wellesley College in 1952 and received an MA degree from SMU in 1994. She was a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church where she sang in the Choir, Dallas Junior League, Dallas Museum of Art League, Wellesley Club of Dallas, and Dallas Country Club. She was a lifelong volunteer in education and the arts at the DMA and the DISD and was a former Board Member of St. Mark's School.
Her greatest life achievement by far was in raising four wonderful sons and providing a loving family home for over 60 years. She is survived by her husband Thomas P. Kennedy III, sons Thomas G. Kennedy and wife Diana of Tucson, John S. Kennedy and wife Linda of Dallas, Frank M. Kennedy of Dallas, and Allen J. Kennedy of Boulder, and her grandchildren Elizabeth Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, and Ryan Kennedy.
"Do not seek out my graveside for I am not there. I will be with Tom, walking the mountain trails of Colorado and New Mexico, bicycling the byroads of Ireland, Scotland, France, and Italy, or walking through the villages and museums of Europe."
A Memorial Service will be held at the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church at 2pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
