February 4, 1934 – June 1, 2019
Gilberto Vazquez, age 85, passed away on June 1, 2019 in Dallas, TX. He was born February 4, 1934 in Atlixco, Puebla in Mexico, to Sofia & Pedro Vazquez. He married Maria Elena Vazquez in 1968 and the couple had 2 children.
Despite only reaching a 6th grade education, Gilberto was resourceful and taught himself many trades. He worked as an elevator technician at Hitachi in Mexico City where he worked for more than 12 years. He and his family arrived to the United States in 1985 seeking a better life. In the US, Gilberto held various jobs as handyman. Including maintaining Corsicana's golf course for 6 years. He and his wife lived in Corsicana for over 30 years.
In his spare time, Gilberto enjoyed gardening, reading, making puzzles, carpentry, listening to music, dancing - lots of dancing, story telling, cross stitching, house projects & spending quality time with his family and his cat Polonia.
His family and friends will always remember him for his incredible memory that resulted in captivating stories. He is also known as brave, energetic, hard working, creative and an amazing host. A giving (even if he didn’t have much to give) and tell-it-like-it-is kind of guy.
He is preceded in death by his Son, Mario Vazquez; Father, Pedro Vazquez; mother, Sofia Vazquez; Sisters, Julia & Pilar Vazquez; Brother, Pedro Vazquez. He is survived by his Loving Wife, Maria Elena Vazquez, Children, Miguel Vazquez, Sofia Vazquez, Rita Garay & Gabriela Norton; Several Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, nieces & Nephews.
He will be forever loved & never forgotten. Rest in Peace, Gilberto Vazquez!
