Gloria was born in New York City in 1941 to Hilda and Bernard Stein. In September, 1961, while attending college, Gloria met her future husband, Henry, in Far Rockaway, New York. Gloria, returning from a disappointing afternoon date, told the boy that she was going to go out with that fellow who was talking to her brother. A seven month courtship ensued and Gloria and Henry were married in April,1962. Over the next 56 years, Gloria and Henry shared a life filled with love, laughter, friends, children and grandchildren.
Gloria was always on the move, camping in Maine, skiing in Vermont, playing tennis and golf with friends and reading a good book. She loved traveling the globe with Henry, and she enjoyed the theater, museums, restaurants and shopping. Together with Henry, Gloria frequently took long walks on the Katy Trail in Dallas. And she never tired of returning to her childhood home of New York City to explore the city, always by foot.
Gloria loved the ocean and when she and Henry retired in 2001, they moved to Boca Raton, Florida. In 2007, they moved to Dallas to be closer to family.
Gloria chose to be cared for at home. Even during her illness, she tried to continue to live life to the fullest on her terms, She accepted what she could not change and died peacefully loving her family and knowing that they all loved her.
In her professional life, Gloria spent 22 years at Xerox Corporation. She was a Vice President & Chief Financial Officer of a $13 Billion Business Group, Vice President of North American Audit, supervising over 50 professionals, and held a variety of additional financial and audit positions. Gloria also served as an adjunct professor at Rochester Institute of Technology during her Xerox tenure. Prior to her roles in the corporate sector, she was an elementary school teacher in New York and Massachusetts.
Gloria graduated, with distinction, from Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts. She also earned a Master of Business Administration in Finance and Accounting graduating with Honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Gloria was a Certified Public Accountant in New York State and a licensed teacher in Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York. She served on many non-profit boards during her lifetime.
Gloria is survived by her two sons: Kirk Fleischer, of New York City, and Russell Fleischer (wife Liz Fleischer), of Fort Worth, Texas, grandchildren Amelia and Alexander Fleischer of Fort Worth, and Chloe and Addison Fleischer of Park City, Utah, her brother, Alan Stein (wife Dinah) of New Jersey and his daughters Elizabeth and Amanda and her best friend and beloved husband, Henry.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Lefkowitz Chapel at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Avenue, Dallas Texas on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at 1:00pm, with a reception to follow in the Tycher Gathering Space adjacent to the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gloria’s name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org) or to the Friends of the Katy Trail (katytraildallas.org).
