Grace Kathryn Smith passed peacefully in her Lakewood home on the afternoon of July 28, 2020, at the magnificent age of 102. Grace was born June 8, 1918, in Dallas, Tx to Margaret and Rufus Knott. She enjoyed growing up in Dallas and would often tell stories about attending Mount Auburn Elementary and her high school years at Woodrow Wilson high school- schools that are still neighborhood staples. She graduated from Woodrow in 1936 but will always be a proud member of the Woodrow Wilson family. At the young age of 21, she met the love of her life William Bayne Smith and they were married on March 16, 1940. Grace became a loving mother with the birth of her eldest son and enjoyed her full-time job of caring for her four loving children. A loyal member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Grace attended services and participated in activities from the age of 4 until the church closed in 2006. Grace was also an integral member of the SMile Circle that consisted of friends from the church; they often met to discuss the Bible and enjoy each other’s company through the years. She was an avid neighborhood history buff and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with whoever would listen. Preceded in death by husband William Smith; daughter, Kathryn Smith; son, Gary Smith; brother, Charles Knott; sister, Doris Knox; and sweet dog, Shadeaux. Grace is survived by her son, Michael Smith and wife Cyndee; daughter, Judith Smith; grandson, Matthew Smith and great-grandson, Skyler; granddaughter, Kim Vargas, wife Lisa, and great-grandson Grayson; granddaughter, Loretta Smith and wife Sarah; granddaughter, Janelle Kissel and husband Sam; beloved dog, Lovie; and many more precious family members and friends over the years. In light of the current situation (COVID 19), the family has opted not to have services but will make arrangements for a celebration of life once it is safe to have gatherings again. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Texas Food Bank at http://www.giventfb.org/ or 3677 Mapleshade Ln, Plano, TX 75075 to help people in this time of need.
