

Grace Louise Knotts Talkington (DeTar) died at her home in Dallas, Texas on August 20, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Visitation to be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home 6 pm - 8 pm. Internment will occur at Hillcrest Memorial Park at 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25, 2017, followed by a Celebration of Her Life to be held at Northwest Bible Church at 8505 Douglas Ave., Dallas, Texas at 11:30 a.m.
Grace was born June 5, 1918 in Coffeyville Kansas to parents Bert and Ella DeTar.
Grace was married to Dale W. Knotts on June 12, 1942, and later to Perry C. Talkington M.D. on November 11, 1972.
Grace graduated from Field Kindley High School in 1936, and The University of Kansas in 1940.
Grace loved Dallas and enjoyed giving back to the community, including being on committees for the Dallas Symphony League, Dallas Ballet, Dallas Opera Guild, Dallas Arboretum, Dallas Historical Society, and the Dallas chapter of Quota International, serving as the District Governor of the Dallas area from 1971-1972. She also was very active in several local and state medical and psychiatric auxiliary associations, including her time as President of the Dallas County Medical Society, President of the Dallas Psychiatric Auxiliary, and a founding member and President of the Texas Psychiatric Society Auxiliary. Some of her other passions included: gardening, cooking and travelling the world.
She is survived by her daughters Louise Knotts Lary of Burnet TX, Lynn Talkington Rogers of Dallas TX and Kathy Knotts Hernandez of Santa Rosa CA and her sons Paul C. Talkington of Dallas TX and Robert W. Talkington of Dallas TX, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family extends special thanks to Faith Presbyterian Hospice, and a very special thanks to loyal and loving private caregivers, Edith, Chalia, Pam, Sherry, Brenda, Vicky, and Gina.
