Greg was born on September 7, 1950 to Nathan and Marion Hultgren and graduated from Sherrard High School in Sherrard, IL and Illinois State University in Normal, IL with a Bachelor of Science and Masters in Accounting. Greg was first introduced to accounting at the early age of ten by his father and grandfather. Greg was responsible for equipment depreciation schedules included in the tax returns they filed on behalf of the local area farmers, often in exchange for produce or poultry.
After completing his Masters, Greg became an instructor at Illinois State University teaching introductory and cost accounting classes. He was quickly lured away to positions in public accounting firms Price Waterhouse and later Grant Thornton. Specializing in financial institutions, Greg became known as the bankers’ accountant and served as CFO for several Dallas area banks. Always the entrepreneur, Greg served as partner and CFO at United LP Gas and next returned to banking as CFO at the start-up of Texas Capital Bank. Most recently, Greg served as a partner and CFO of Dent Zone Companies, an automotive services company in Irving, TX.
Throughout his professional career, Greg’s passion was always his love of teaching and mentoring young people in the accounting and business disciplines. Teaching was his calling and he was rewarded by the success of his many students.
Greg was a loving and devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and friend. He particularly loved spending time with his nieces and nephews scattered throughout the United States. Greg was also a very faithful man dedicated to God and devoted to his Catholic faith and church community, frequently serving as a lector at Sunday mass offerings. Greg played high school and college football and remained an avid football fan, spending many a weekend cheering for his favorite college and professional teams. He was lucky enough to attend two Super Bowl games featuring his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Greg loved to travel, especially to any beach, and treasured his daily afternoon Café Lattes.
