Gretchen, born the youngest child and only daughter of Alton B. and Nina Shaw Fischer. Married to Melvin Nichols for over 60 years, a faithful, loving, and supportive wife while a devoted mother to sons Daniel and John. A lifelong student of language and music finishing her formal education at SMU and TWU. The cello was her instrument, and she excelled at it. She loved performing and teaching others – taking pride in her students’ accomplishments. Her name was on the “go to” list of many church music ministers. She played many years for the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving, Texas Winds, and the Singapore Slingers. She was a member of the musical arts club and the music study club. She will be missed by so many. Survived by husband Mel, sons Daniel and John, daughter in law Alexis, granddaughter Grace, brother Ronald.
Family will receive visitors Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home at 7405 W. Northwest Highway.
Funeral service is at 11:00am on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at St Michael and All Angels Chapel.
Burial following at Greenwood Cemetery at 3020 Oak Grove Ave, Dallas, TX 75204
A reception will be held following the burial at the family home.
