God allowed Kitty to be born June 27, 1935 to Bessie Ambus Dowdell at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. She was taken home by Y.C. Mullins and his wife Ethyl Virginia Mullins, who officially adopted her July 19, 1935. Y.C. Mullins was a sign painter and died in a Galveston fire a few years later. Ethyl eventually remarried a man named A.U. Stewart, who was n the Air Force. He became a construction worker after his discharge. he did tape and bed work, plus painting, in the 1941 housing boom after World War II. They lived all over Texas, from Wichita Falls to Dallas to Houston....where ever new homes were going up. So Kitty ended up going to twelve schools before she finished eighth grade. It was hard for her to make manly friends because she was never in one place very long. When the family finally settled in Dallas, she was enrolled as a freshman in St. Edward's Academy on Elm St. She was there three years, long enough to make friends......who she still saw and visited with. Her Mother divorced and moved back to Galveston (her true Love). So Kitty attended Dominican High School there for her senior year. During that year she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent a complete hysterectomy at age 17. After surviving the subsequent x-ray treatments and graduation, she moved to Houston and then back to Dallas to work. In Dallas she met and married Kenneth Douglas Canada on March 22, 1957. Kenneth joined the Air Force shortly thereafter. After jet engine mechanic training he was sent to Yokoto, Japen. Kitty followed him and they lived "off-base" in condemned housing for almost two years. What and adventure that was! When they returned to the United States in December 1960 and resumed civilian life...they bought a house and both went to work. Kitty worked for Tom Anderson, founder of Trans-Continental Telephone Co. for 10 years. Then she worked for Mack Pogue's Lincoln Property Company for 40 years. She really appreciated all the career opportunities the Pogue organization provided her. And she made so manly dear friends there! Kenneth and Kitty adopted two children. Kenneth Douglas Canada, Jr. was born in 1968 and Kendal Ann Canada (now Houx) was born in 1970. She is survived by her grandchildren Justin Glass, Seven Neves and Kaysie Houx, great grandchildren; Emma Sanchez and Khloe Glass. Husband Kenneth Canada Sr, half-brother, Jadon Stewart, chosen sister, Geraldine Campbell. Kitty's passions were family, friends, traveling, taking pictures, and planting flowers. She would have house parties, or organize dinners with high school classmates or co-workers....that was her great joy! She often said "Friends are one of Go's greatest gifts". After her retirement from Lincoln Property Company in 2010 she became more active volunteering and began attending 5:30PM daily Mass here at St. Rita Catholic Community. I know Kitty appreciates you taking the time to be here for her Mass of Christian Burial....because she once told me that one of her saddest experiences was attending a funeral service at which her family of four were the only ones there. So, thank you for coming....and please remember her family and friends in your prayers! May God bless you all.
