

Dr. Smith went home to be with the Lord on May 17. He was born on Jan. 22, 1929 to B. T. and Eula Smith in Port Arthur, Texas. He is survived by wife Frances, 3 daughters Sharon and husband Russell Logan, Hawkins, Cynthia E. Smith, Fort Worth, and Elizabeth and husband Dr. Timothy Crusius and 2 grandchildren Micah and Rachel Crusius, Dallas, and a brother Dr. William B. Smith and wife Patricia, College Station.
Dr. Smith was a graduate of Baylor University and Baylor Dental College. He served 5 years of active duty in the Army after graduation and later in the Army Reserve for 15 years. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Colonel. He practiced dentistry in Dallas for many years and retired at age 70. He and his family were active members of First Baptist Church for many years where he served with the Medical-Dental Class on mission trips and he was a member of the Gideon’s. In later years, he attended Scofield Memorial Church. In 2013, he and Frances moved to the Atria Retirement Community in Tyler, Texas.
Dr. Smith will be remembered as an honorable Christian man and a devoted husband and father. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 with Dr. Jeffrey VanGoethem and Rev. Jim Cassidy officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Sparkman/Hillcrest.
