In loving memory of Handrio Setjo

With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of Handrio Setjo, who left us on July 22, 2024, at the age of 78. Handrio was a beloved husband, a devoted father, and a cherished friend. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He leaves behind his loving wife Elisabeth Soegiarto and his three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Julia and Peter De Zwart, Carolina Kristina and Jullian Tan, Maria Katarina and Shayne Strigle, and grandchildren, Sabrina, Daniel, Zevanna, Daniella, Nathan, Nicholas, and Adriana.

Handrio was born on May 15, 1946, in Yogyakarta to Hartono and Suyati Setjo. In 1970, seeking new opportunities, he moved to Jakarta, where he began his career at Jaya Trade. His journey led him to a new chapter in 1973 when he married Elisabeth Indriyani and took a bold step into Sanjaya Graha Sarana as a sales representative. Over 22 years, Handrio’s dedication and hard work earned him the role of Vice President, significantly advancing the company’s success and establishing it as a leader in Indonesia’s roofing industry. In 1998, he moved to the United States to be with his family and continued his career across various industries.

Handrio was known for his wisdom and intellectual curiosity. He valued education, loved reading, and enjoyed dining out. Though he was not outwardly romantic or expressive, his love and devotion were evident in the quiet, thoughtful ways he cared for those around him. His deep faith in Divine Mercy was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both triumphs and trials.

Throughout his life, Handrio faced numerous health challenges, often requiring hospital care. A month ago, a severe stroke compromised his ability to speak and swallow, gradually weakening him as his body struggled to maintain essential nutrients. Despite receiving palliative care at home in Princeton, his health declined rapidly. On July 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren, he passed away peacefully.

Rest in peace, Papi. Rest in peace, Grandpa. You will always remain in our hearts.
