Harold W. Awbrey joined the Lord on December 11, 2010. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Harold was born November 21, 1940 in Longview Texas. A 1959 graduate of Edinburg High School, Harold attended Pan American College before joining the U.S. Air Force (1960-1966), 331st Fighter Interceptor Squadron (ADC) where he received the outstanding unit award. He retired from Dresser Industries after 33 years of service. An avid reader, Harold especially liked to read obituaries, so we hope he enjoys this one. A loyal sports fan, he also enjoyed playing scrabble, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He was an active member of the Pearland Church of Christ, and Eastside Church of Christ, Pearland, TX. He is survived by the love of his life of 31 years, Lana Downs Awbrey and his beloved dog Boo, his constant companion. Also survived by his sister Louise Popplewell; brothers, Gerald Awbrey and Leroy Awbrey; brother-in-law Clay Clemons; children; Sheri Awbrey and husband Perry Wing; Deborah Zemba and husband Andrew; Peter Awbrey; Dominique Howard; Nicole Perry and husband Ben; grandchildren; Jolene Awbrey-McAfoose and husband J.D.; Rachel Marinch; Stephanie and Andrew Zemba; Micaela and Madeline McMahon; Maya and Piper Perry; Emma Howard; a very special niece Crystal Hayes Graves and many more nieces and nephews. Harold knew how to share life with everyone around him, to love and to laugh at life’s idiosyncrasies. He loved to travel taking road trips to see the USA. Harold wanted his life to be celebrated not mourned. His final road trip will be a celebration at Garner State Park, Spring/Summer 2011. Harold was preceded in death by his parents Clifford Don Awbrey Sr. and Clara Nell McQuinn Awbrey; first wife Carol LeGrand Awbrey; daughter, Beverly Lynne Awbrey; brother Clifford Don Awbrey Jr.; and sister Mary Nell Clemons. Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 17, 2010 at Grove Hill Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. We are going to miss your smile, your laughs and your story telling. Until we meet again, love, hugs and kisses.
