Harriett Zeta Bill Ordemann, age 92, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, at the Wyndham Court assisted living facility in Plano, Texas. Harriett was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 28, 1932.
Harriett was a loving spouse, mother, aunt, niece, cousin, and a devout Roman Catholic. She lived in Duncanville, Texas for many years and was an original member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church there. She had a wonderful singing voice and could dance like Ginger Rogers. Harriett and her husband Bob could light up a dance floor. In the late 2000’s she thoroughly enjoyed performing with the Duncanville “Plungerettes” in shows, parades and fund raisers.
Harriett is a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She and her aunts Bernie Yates and Marg Hirth collaborated for years to learn about their heritage, eventually establishing Colonel Daniel Boone as an ancestor.
Harriett’s family moved to Springfield, Illinois when she was very young. She spent her summers with her cousins in Bluffs, Illinois, staying at the old Richards Hotel built by her great-grandfather David Richards and where her Grandmother Charlotte Evans, Aunt Gertrude and Uncle Joe Evans ran a café.
She attended Ursuline Academy in Springfield, Illinois where the nuns called her “Billy Bright Eyes.” Upon graduating she took a job as a bookkeeper at the Electrolux Corporation. She also worked as a secretary for the Tuberculosis Association, and as a switchboard operator for the USGS. After raising a family she became an EMT, worked with the Visiting Nurse Association as a Hospice volunteer, and worked as a grief counselor.
Over the years Harriett and her husband lived in Neshanic, New Jersey; Mountain Lakes, New Jersey; Deerfield, Illinois; and Duncanville, Texas.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Ordemann (wife: Judy) of Plano, Texas, John Ordemann (wife: Wendy, deceased) of Londonderry, New Hampshire, Keith Ordemann (wife: Louise) of Mohnton, Pennsylvania, Christine Ketter (husband: Ken) of Cleveland, South Carolina, James Ordemann (wife: Cathy) of Duncanville, Texas and Robert Ordemann (wife: Pauline) of Groton, Massachusetts; grandchildren: Crystal Kachmar, Paul Ordemann, Elizabeth Totten, Mary Owen, Andrew Ordemann, Allison Chisholm, Justin Wood, Jessica Gardner, Caileen Miller, Clare Ordemann, Joshua Ordemann, Jacqueline Ordemann, Emma Ordemann, Wiley Ordemann, and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Robert George Ordemann, her parents Edward Bill and Genevieve Bill, her brothers Joseph Evans, Edward Bill, Charles Bill, and Gerard Bill, and grandchildren Scott Moore and Jason Moore.
Harriett’s family kindly requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Catholic Charities of Dallas or Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville, TX.
A visitation for Harriett will be held Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L., Dallas, TX 75232. A funeral service will occur Monday, June 30, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1111 W Danieldale Rd, Duncanville, TX 75137. A reception will occur Monday, June 30, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1111 W Danieldale Rd, Duncanville, TX 75137. A committal will occur Monday, June 30, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220.
