Harriette Lutz Livingston

August 26, 1926August 12, 2014

Harriette Harriette Lutz Livingston, M.D., was born in 1926 in Augusta, Kansas and died August 12, 2014. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from The University of Colorado, she earned a medical degree at Washington University in St. Louis graduating AOA (top 10%). This is where she met and married Shields Livingston, M.D., her husband of 62 years. Harriette completed an internship in pediatrics at Vanderbilt Hospital and moved to Dallas with her husband, a general surgeon. She later completed a residency in anesthesiology at Parkland Hospital and worked for many years in Dallas. Harriette had a terrific sense of humor and warm laugh. She was a unique individual and a true intellect who was an avid reader, excellent cook, accomplished at needlework, great at bridge, a gracious hostess, and a caring mother who especially enjoyed time with family and friends. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her three children - Barbara & Richard Rathwick in Dallas, Marian Livingston in Houston and Tom and Mary Livingston in Ft Worth - and their families including 5 grand children and 4 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Wynne Chapel, Highland Park Presbyterian Church on Friday, August 15 at 2:00 pm.

I am so sad for you, Barbara, Marian, and Tom. I can hear her laugh and feel the joy of being around her. My memories go back to Vanderbilt when she was a bride and pediatric intern. All the nursing students loved working with her (while they all had a crush on Shields). The time we shared with your family at the McKinney VA are fond fun memories. Then we all came to Dallas together to go into practice. I have such joyous memories of Harriette!

Your mom was such a sweet and funny lady. She always welcomed myself and other friends into your home as if we were her own. It took me a quite a while to remember to call her "Dr. Livingston," too, as she was the first 'lady doctor' I knew. She will be missed by many.
Please accept my condolences, Tom, and my best to Barbara & Marian.
