Hattie was born September 23, 1927 in Electra, TX to Charles Theodore Roessler and Mary Hartmangruber Roessler, the second eldest of eight children. Upon graduation from Electra High School, Hattie moved to the Dallas area to attend nursing school. She completed her nursing degree in 1947 and became a registered nurse for St. Paul Hospital in Dallas.
Hattie married Grover Nickell on April 19, 1949. In 1951, she left the work force to start her family and was blessed with three children; Katherine, Jon and Robert.
Hattie enjoyed drawing, painting, reading and taking care of her flowers. She was also an avid lover of animals. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attended many dance recitals, band concerts, football and soccer games.
She was preceded in death by her husband Grover and daughter Kathy; her parents and siblings, Dolores Herbers, Evelyn Helms, Gary Roessler and Rosemary Brooks.
She is survived by her son Jon and his wife Shannon and their children, Hunter (Staci) Nickell, Adrianne (Jordan) Boswell and Alyssa Nickell; and son Robert and his wife Teresa and their children, Stephanie (Billy) Villasanti, Jeremy Graham and Ashley Graham and four great grandchildren, Sophia, John, Eric and Michael; surviving siblings Ethel George, Leona Pronitis, and Cecilia Weisenfels.
A Funeral Mass for Hattie will be held in the North Chapel of Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, TX on Saturday, October 12 at 10:00am, Reverend Ruben Ortiz, celebrant. Rite of committal will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery. Following the Mass and internment, a reception will be held for Hattie in the Calvary Hill banquet room.
