Hattie C. Samuel Scott, better known as Nana, passed away peacefully at home in Dallas, Texas, on September 19, 2026, at the age of 91.
Nana is survived by her children, Patrica Ann Williams, Loraine Scott, Hertis Beasley, and Charles Turner; her surviving brother, Hughey P. Samuel; and many other beloved family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Broomfield and Ernest Samuel; her husband, Willie Scott; her children, Ronnie Scott and Jackie Scott; and her brother, Franklin D. Samuel.
Nana was one of a set of triplets, born alongside her two brothers, and together they made history as the first triplets born in the state of Arkansas. All three triplets were named after presidents, with Nana being named after a president’s wife. They shared a special bond that began from the moment they entered the world together.
Nana attended high school in Arkansas and later attended college in Arkansas, where she earned her bachelor’s degree. She was a hardworking woman who dedicated many years of her life to providing for herself and her family. She worked in clerical positions for more than 10 years and also spent more than 10 years working in cleaning services. No matter what she did, she approached her work with dedication, determination, and a strong work ethic.
Nana loved God and her family more than life itself. She was a devoted family woman who treasured the people she loved. Nana loved all of her grandchildren beyond measure, but she had a little extra-special love for her Tootsie, Tayla. From the day Tayla entered this world, Nana and Tayla were each other’s #1 fans. They shared a special bond and a love that was truly one of a kind. They always watched football together, creating precious memories that Tayla will cherish forever. Nana loved her Tootsie very much, and their bond was filled with unconditional love, encouragement, and unwavering support.
Nana had a special way of holding on to memories and loved saving little knickknacks that held meaning to her. She especially loved being outside in her yard, where she enjoyed spending time doing yard work and taking care of her surroundings.
She was loving, caring, and kind to those around her. Nana was a hard worker at everything she did and was a strong, independent woman who maintained her independence even during her later years in life.
Nana leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, hard work, independence, and devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”
