

Hazen Thomas Smith Jr., age 79, passed away on December 28, 2023 in Scurry, Texas. He was born on March 11, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to Thelma Smith and Hazen Thomas Smith Sr. Hazen grew up in Dallas and graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1962. He married Sheila Longley in 1963. He later married Billie Jean Foster in 1969. Then he married Leslie Eileen Hamrick in 1980. He married Tracy Michelle Kisor in 2006.
Hazen was an avid sportsman, having participated in Drag Racing, Motocross, BMX, Scuba Diving, Water Skiing, Snow Skiing, and Golf. Hazen was also heavily involved with the HAM Radio community, and was a member of the Dallas Area Radio Club (DARC) for many years, serving as the president of the club for several of those years. Later in his life he enjoyed playing electric bass in church and anywhere else that would have him.
He worked as a machinist at Texas Instruments before his love for hot rods and drag racing led him to work as a mechanic for Van Winkle Pontiac, and subsequently Foster and Son Auto Company. He later worked with his father at the family business, Woodworkers Equipment Company, from 1975 to 1986. After that, he worked as a technician and contractor for Tucker Electronics for the better part of a decade. He went on to work as a mechanic for Action Powersports, retiring from his position as Service Manager in 2004.
Hazen was a wonderful man who got along with everyone. He attended Grays Prairie Baptist Church and loved the Lord. He is preceded in death by his parents Hazen Sr. and Thelma, and his daughter Denise. He is survived by his wife Tracy and their beloved pets, sister Sherry, sons Tommy and his wife Deanna, Parris, and Troy and his wife Jennifer, nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
