She was a lifetime member at the Bethany Baptist church where she was involved with her church family and serving her Lord for more than fifty years.
In her spare time, Retta enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and reading, but her most prized gift was her ability to quilt. She kept a notebook of all of the books she had ever read in her lifetime, whether she liked them or not, and she spent hours and hours handcrafting beautiful quilts to ensure her immediate family members received something to cherish for generations. She loved to gift her quilts to those she held dear, and even her long term mail carrier was given one of these special items in appreciation.
She also loved cooking, trying new recipes, and planning dinners with friends and family. Retta’s passion for cookbooks was shared with her sister,Sarah, who she loved to compare recipes with.
Her friends and family knew that they also could always count on a birthday card to come in the mail on their special day. Retta never forgot anyone dear and special to her heart.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Gleenis Wayne Brown. Retta is survived by her daughters Glenda Kay Arnold, Sharon Lou Butler and husband, Herman and Carol Denise Alvarado; nine grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and a host of extended nieces and nephews.
She will truly be missed by all.
