The precious love of our lives, our mother, Herminia Martinez Castillo, departed to heaven with our Lord and savior, on the morning of Friday, July 26, 2024. Ama (Mom) was 94 years of age. She was born in La Paz, San Luis Potosí, Mexico on July 19, 1930. She lived a hard working life as a wife and mother of six children, from the time she lived in Mexico, and later made her home in the United States in the 1950s.
Our mother is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Atanasio Castillo (1927-2017) and her first-born daughter, Maria Ramona Castillo (1950-2024). She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Lorenzo & Gloria Castillo, Raymond & Delores Castillo, Joe Castillo, Frank & Elisa Castillo; her daughter and son-in-law, Petra (Betty) & Richard Pineda; her grandchildren: Rudy & Jennifer De La Garza, Raymond Castillo, Jr., Michael & Stephanie Castillo, Emily Castillo, Richie Pineda, Alicia Castillo, Alexander Castillo, Angel Pineda, Grace Castillo, and Aidan Castillo; her great-grandchildren: Adalina, Colton, Cristian and Florence
Ama was an amazing woman with a heart of gold and she had a profound faith in her Catholic saints and in Our Lady of Guadalupe. She recited her prayers daily and prayed to the Lord to bestow his blessings upon everyone, especially her family. She wouldn’t let you leave the house without a blessing. Ama loved to cook for her family, and it didn’t matter if you didn’t want to eat what she had made, she would cook what you wanted in a heartbeat! Sundays spent at Ama’s house will forever be beautiful memories for us, we loved just sitting around the table, eating, talking, and joking with each other. She made a sensational, delicious mole like no one could, and til this day, no one can, even though some have tried. She was very well known to everyone for her delicious mole and she didn’t give out her secret ingredient to just anybody, so consider yourself a very special and lucky person, if you know the secret. It was our favorite dish that she made for our birthday celebrations, and lets not forget the rice!
We were blessed with her for so many years. She instilled her Catholic faith and values in us as small children, she taught us to love each other, to look after each other, to live well and raise our own children with the same values. Ama made sure we were a tight-knit family and her legacy will carry on in us and her grandchildren. We will miss her immensely. We will trust in the Lord as she taught us, for we know that he reached his arms out to pick her up while she was sleeping peacefully and carried her into his kingdom of heaven.
Ama, te queremos mucho con todo el corazon, descanse en paz con nuestro padre celestial.
