

Horace Spencer Poindexter passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the age of 66. Horace was born in Cleveland, Texas on August 7, 1955, where he lived and spent the majority of his life. He attended Frederick Douglas High School in Cleveland and was loved by his family and friends. His brother Sammie loved helping him with his homework, even though he was the youngest. Horace loved working at Smith Grocery in Cleveland and for a company in the Houston area where he did shipping and receiving. Until his health started to fail, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and eating. These were his favorite pastimes.
In 2003 he located to Dallas, Texas where he was admitted to a local nursing home. Delores Anderson was one of his caretakers at the home, and she was always saying that he was a kind and respectful resident. He loved her because she treated him with respect.
Horace is survived by two brothers: Curtis Ruffin (Brenda) of Houston, TX and Sammie Lee Butler (Charlene) of Cleveland, TX; two sisters: Irene Ruffin Coy (Eugene) of Dallas, TX and Wanda Ruffin Lee of Dallas, TX; six Nephews: Rock Ruffin of Houston, TX; Sammie Butler, Jr., of Austin, TX; Carlos Lamar Parnell Lee of Dallas, TX; Eugene Coy, III of Dallas, TX; Jason Butler of Lake Charles, LA, Eugene Williams of Fresno, CA,; seven Nieces: LaTanya Ruffin Poe of Houston, TX; Antoinette Butler of Cleveland, TX; Nita Butler of Cleveland, TX; Roslyn Ruffin Harvey of Dallas, TX; Montez Ruffin Garner of Houma, LA; Tamika Rochelle Coy of Dallas, TX, and a host of cousins and friends.
