Howard Walters

Howard Walters, son of Johnnie and Lular Walters, was born in Bluff City, Arkansas, on September 14, 1939. He was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and graduated from McCray High School. After relocating to Chicago, he joined New Friendship Baptist Church and met his wife, Dorothy. They married on December 30, 1964, before Howard was drafted into the United States Army. The following year, they welcomed Regina, their only child.

Howard served in the Army as a decorated sharpshooter and received the good conduct medal award before completing his service duties.

Howard returned to New Friendship, where he remained active in Sunday school and served on the Usher Board until he retired from his job and relocated to DeSoto, Texas.

After moving to Texas, he joined Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the late Dr. Karry D. Wesley. There, he continued serving on the Usher Board and participating in Sunday school and noonday Bible study.

Howard was employed by National Casting/Midland Odessa Ross Steel Company as a supervisor until he retired.

Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents; and his siblings: Jimmy, James, Johnnie, Jr., Mae, Roosevelt, Ernest, Ethel, Herbert, his twin brother, Fred, Robert Earl, Horace, and Shelton.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories: daughter, Regina; grandson, Howard Earl; brother, Willie (Karen) Walters; sister, Francis Williams; sisters-in-law, Sheryl (Rober Earl “aka” Bob) Walters, Filante-Star (Herbert) Walters, Julie (Horace) Walters, Joyce (Shelton) Walters, Lillie Gavin, Jerlene Wheaton, Janet Wheaton and other family and friends.
