

Hubert Earl Griffith, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully at home in his sleep Tuesday morning, June 4, 2013 after a vigorous and valiant 18-month battle with aplastic anemia and subsequent bone marrow transplant. He was born in June 1936 in South Bend, Indiana to Helen and Hubert Griffith, Sr. He played football at Wabash College, and then served in the US Marine Corps. After an Honorable Discharge from the Service, he married Sharon Pollack in 1961. They moved around the country with their three children as Hugh worked his way up through the corporate ladder of the auto industry. Hugh loved golf and gardening, coached his children’s sports teams, was President of Little League Baseball, President of the High School Football Booster Club, and collected antique American Flyer trains. He was a Freemason in South Bend, Indiana, and was a member of the Rotary Club in many cities, with his final membership in the Rotary Club of Park Cities. Sharon and Hugh settled in Dallas in 1989. Sharon unexpectedly passed away in 1996. At a grief recovery class, Hugh met Nancy Chilton who was also recovering from the unexpected loss of her spouse. Hugh and Nancy married in 2001, and have enjoyed life together ever since – watching their 10 grandchildren grow up, traveling the world, gardening, cooking, and enjoying time together with family and friends. Hugh became very active in his and Nancy’s church, Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, where he volunteered in many capacities and was a Deacon. Hugh is survived by his wife Nancy Chilton Griffith, his brothers Don and Eugene, and his son Todd and wife Selva and their children TJ and Michelle, his son Shawn and wife Tamara and their son Grayson, and his daughter Cydney Anna. He is also survived by Nancy’s son Scott and wife Jennifer and their children Kristen and her husband Stephen Clark, Chad, Carson, Cooper and Katherine, Nancy’s daughter Katherine and husband Carl Kuwitzky and their children Jackie and Jake, and Nancy’s son John. Hugh lived a full life, and will be missed by many. A memorial service to celebrate Hugh’s life will be held at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, at 2PM on Saturday, June 8, 2013.
