On Friday, August 28, 2020, Hugo Alfonso Urrutia, father of six children, passed away at the age of 66. He was born in San Salvador, El Salvador on October 19, 1953 to Juana Irene Salazar Urrutia and Miguel Alfonso Urrutia.
From a very young age he was an intelligent and charming young man. As the eldest, he always had the desire to help those around him and looked for ways to make his family happy and provide for them. He was a happy boy that played soccer and soon learned to play guitar and sing songs like his papa.
He was always interested in the arts, and found a desire to be a performer, on the stage and off. Hugo could make friends wherever he went, he lit up a room. He had his heart set on music and the Hollywood American dream. He was a fearless man, who at the young age of 17 decided to leave El Salvador - cross Central America, all the way into Mexico and finally arrived at the US American border. He set his sights on Los Angeles and was blessed with family and friends that gave him an opportunity to find work and establish himself. He found his Salvadoran love and married Doralma. Together, they had a passion for cooking and were able to manage several catering trucks in the 80’s - they would go on to operate a very successful catering truck business in LA. He also stumbled into auditions and came upon movie sets and had a small career in acting, having worked with people such as Dennis Hopper and Danny Devito. (He is still a member of the Screen Actors Guild).
He and his wife had 3 kids and moved to Dallas in 1993 so he could pastor the Foursquare church in Oak Cliff. They would create a bilingual congregation in that neighborhood for the next 20 years. Hugo also became a strategist for the housing market in his area, investing in Oak Cliff and helping those that needed affordable and reliable housing. He loved his community and those around him.
He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Alvaro and Rolando and his father, Miguel. He is survived by his mother, Juana, his six children, Susanna, her son Miguelito and her husband Martin Zavala, Hugo II and his daughter Alejandra and son Hugo III, Carlos and his wife Rebecca and their daughter Melody, Lea and her husband Zak, Celeste, Ezra and his wife Kaimyn and their daughter Zuri Adelina, his sisters Haydee and her son Gerardo and her daughters Karla and her husband Enrique Mancia, Diana and her husband Efrain Rodriguez, Irene and Lucy and her husband Alfredo Barrera, Yanira and her husband Marcos and their sons Joshua and Mark, Ada and her husband Julio and their daughters Irene, Stephanie, Amy and Frances, Roxanna, and his brother Oscar.
