Humberto Esquivel Gamez, affectionately known as “Apa,” was born February 11, 1932, in Mexico to parents Jose and Francisca Gamez. He went to be with his Lord on January 25, 2015. Humberto was a carpenter in the early 1970s, building many hotels on Padre Island. Many of those hotels still stand. He was very proud when we drove by there a few years back pointing to the ones he help build. Humberto was a very proud employee for T.I. for 20 years, where he worked as a janitor in the research lab. Humberto enjoyed spending time gardening and he was very active member at St. Edwards Catholic Church. He was loved by many people and he will be truly missed. Humberto is survived by his children Joe I. Gamez, Tony Gamez, Mary Gamez, Francis Zavala, Mario Gamez, Lulu Cruz, Gene Gamez, Penny Romero, Carmen Santos, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, his beloved parrot Louie, and many other relatives and friends.
