Gene's work as a nurse's aide during WWII led her into a life of tireless volunteer service that culminated in a 25-year career at VNA Hospice.
Founding member of Midway Hills Christian Church, she will be well remembered for her devotion to the church's mission at Austin Street Shelter.
Survived by 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a lifetime friend and cousin. Gene was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and friend. Married for 62 years, she is preceded in death by her husband J.R., her parents Homer and Jettie Henderson and 2 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest on Friday Oct. 30 at 2pm with a viewing on Thursday Oct. 29 from 7-9pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Juliet Fowler Home. "Mom we love you and you are always in our hearts."
