

Irene Agnes Budai Ammon, age 95, of Dallas, Texas, went on to her heavenly home peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on June 10, 2026.
Irene was born in Corsicana, Texas on January 27, 1931, to Ellis T. Budai and Velma Nagy Budai Crane.
Irene moved to Dallas after high school and took a job working as an operator with the phone company. She was married to J. Preston Ammon on November 15, 1957, and together raised their four children in Dallas.
Irene dedicated her life to caring for her children and grandchildren and was an active member of the St. Monica Catholic Community. As a mother, Irene dedicated much of her life to caring for her oldest son with Down Syndrome and Autism. She had a generous and giving spirit that never denied a request for help and contributed greatly to funding higher education for her grandchildren.
Irene is preceded in death by brothers Frank, Jess and Rudy, and sisters Ima, Julie, and Ethel; J. Preston Ammon, son Michael A. Ammon, and son-in-law Kenneth Marshall (Lisa).
Irene is survived by her sister Jean Budai Hill; children Matthew Ammon (Lorie Ammon), Lisa Marshall, and Phillip Ammon (Sister Ammon); grandchildren, Joshua Ammon, Nicholas Ammon, Benjamin Bovell-Ammon (Allison Bovell-Ammon), Charis Ammon (Reid Sharpless), Elissa Campos (J. Campos), Chad Marshall, Rachel Burba (Stephen Burba), Casey Geer (Will Geer), and Irene Zitel Ammon; and five great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the North Chapel (inside mausoleum) of Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas, 75220, with Fr. Guadagnoli as the celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 12:30pm, Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm. Committal will follow at Calvary Hill Mausoleum at 2:00pm, with reception to follow inside the main building of Calvary Hill Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Irene’s memory may be made to Catholic Charities.
