I worked with Irene at Legacy Texas Commission of the Blind, and DARS Blind Services. Irene was the first Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor in the state and for the North Region.  She provided exemplary training for me as the first Vocational Supervisor for the South Region.  At one of our meetings in Austin, Irene had a fancy simmering gold business card holder and told her I really liked it.  Well, months later I received a surprise packet at work with a beautiful “thinking of you” card and a fancy business card holder.  I didn’t even remember our prior conversation  and I couldn’t understand the name on the card.  I spent many days trying to decipher  that name on the card and thinking who was so thoughtful  and sweet. I even emailed a person thanking them for the business card holder. TRUE STORY.....FOUR  YEARS later at a meeting in Austin, I see Irene with a  fancy business card holder and I tell her I really like it. She asked me how did I like the business card holder she sent me! I immediately remembered everything and couldn’t believe it!  I told her the whole story and apologized profusely! We laughed about this so many times! Great memories! Also,  Irene provided Field Director coverage for me for weeks during my sister illness.   Her many act of kindness will never be forgotten!!  I sent her a surprise packet in the mail last May to tell her how much I loved her and appreciated her. Irene was truly an angel and I am forever grateful for her being a part of my life! Vera Gist
