Iris Segail Jones Bugg, 81, of Lancaster, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 31, 2025, following heart failure. A woman of unwavering faith, creative talent, and warm friendship, Iris touched countless lives throughout her 81 years.
Born January 17, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to Walter Bryson Jones and Edith Catherine Lloyd Jones, Iris grew up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. She graduated from Sunset High School in 1962, beginning a life marked by creativity, entrepreneurship, and devoted service to Christ.
In 1972, Iris began working at the historic Baker Hotel in Dallas, where she would meet the love of her life, Billy Ray Bugg Jr. The couple married on May 2, 1981, in Dallas, beginning a partnership that would span nearly 45 years. Their marriage was characterized by shared faith, mutual support, and a deep commitment to service the Lord together.
Iris possessed remarkable creative gifts that she channeled into multiple successful ventures. After leaving the Baker Hotel, she partnered with her longtime friend, Lili Draper, to design and create custom uniforms for restaurants and clubs throughout the Dallas area. Her eye for design and meticulous craftsmanship earned her a reputation for excellence. Later, she launched "Fabrications by Iris", a craft business that delighted customers at craft shows and malls across the region. In her later years, Iris became an avid collector of movie memorabilia, surrounding herself with treasured pieces of cinema history.
Throughout her life, Iris remained a firm believer in Jesus Christ. She and Billy attended several local churches before joining Blessed Hope Baptist Church, where they formed lifelong friendships that enriched their journey of faith. In 2017, they became charter members of First Baptist Church in Wilmer, where Iris served faithfully until Billy became Senior Pastor. Her gentle spirit, encouraging words, and steadfast faith were a blessing to all who knew her.
In recent years, Iris embraced social media, becoming an active presence on Facebook where she maintained daily contact with friends near and far. She served as an administrator on several forums, using her gift of encouragement to build community and spread joy. The overwhelming response to her passing has been consistent: "She was such a fantastic lady and she will be missed."
Iris was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Bryson Jones and Edith Catherine Lloyd Jones; her half-sister, Patricia Ann Reitz; and her half-brother, Othar Lycurgus Allen Jr.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Pastor Billy Ray Bugg Jr. of Lancaster; her brother, Walter Bryson Jones Jr. and his wife Melinda; numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews; and a multitude of friends who considered her family.
A memorial service celebrating Iris's life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 - what would have been her 82nd birthday - at First Baptist Church, 144 E. Belt Line Road, Wilmer, TX 75172. Officiating will be Pastor Ramiro Rodrigues, Pastor Billy Bugg, and Dr. Emmanuel Mayfield. A buffet-style lunch will be served in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
In accordance with her wishes, Iris was cremated. Following Billy's eventual passing, their ashes will be scattered together in the Texas Hill Country, one of their favorite vacation destinations, where they shared many cherished memories.
