

Artist and professional architect, Jack Wood, age 93, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 15, 2014. He was born in Champaign, Illinois on June 21, 1921 to Charles Byron and Ruth Wood. He graduated from Champaign Senior High and later from the University of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in China, Burma and India. After the war, Jack married Marjorie Monet Hausser on June 20, 1946. They were married 66 years. Jack and Marjorie lived in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan while Jack worked on his Masters Degree. He received his Masters Degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Cranbrook Academy under the tutiledge of Eliel Saarinen, the renowned Finnish Architect. He began his architectural career in Dallas associated with Howard Meyer & George L. Dahl Architects. Jack formed his own architectural firm known as Wood & Associates and Wood Development Company Some of his prominent commissions include the First National Bank of Midland, Preston State Bank and Lakewood Bank of Dallas, and the Willowgate Townhouse community. He was a long time member of the Lions Club. As a director of the International Linguistics Center, he was extremely devoted to serving as the Center's Architectural Consultant for Wycliffe Bible Translators. Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, and his son, Gary. He is survived by his daughter, Tamra Heath and husband, Jesse; grandchildren: David Heath and his wife, Bethy; Kelly Isbell and her husband, Chris; and Daniel Heath. Jack had six great grandchildren: Morgan, Madeline and Brady Heath; McKenzie, Connor and Preston Isbell. Jack is also survived by his brothers: Charles Byron, John Wesley and Morris Rex Wood. He is also preceded in death by brothers, Robert and Tommy; and his sister, Nancy Priscilla. Jack will always be remembered for his giving nature and strong work ethic. He and Marjorie were members of First Baptist Church Dallas for 60 years, where he served as Deacon. A memorial service in honor of Jack's life will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. NW Hwy on Friday, September, 19, 2014 at 2:00pm. Reception immediately following the service will be held at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: The Criswell College.
