James Herbert Bond Jr. "BERT JR." was born March 27, 1951; a Dallas Native. He graduated Thomas Jefferson 1969 where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a champion golfer! Graduated UT Austin 1973; he was proud to be on the Dean's List while majoring in Finance. He pledged Sig Ep and enjoyed the best of fraternity life.
Bert looked for the best in everyone; never judgmental and always patient. He found the good and also the humorous in those around him. He loved rock n roll, dancing and sports. He listened to others' favorite topics, but his true interests were sports and the stock market. Bert was third generation member at Brook Hollow Golf Club. For much of his life, he was a "scratch" golfer. He could frequently be spotted at Brook Hollow with his favorite frozen screwdriver. He was a "Man's Man". Bert and his father spent countless Sundays at Cowboy games at the "Box" in Texas Stadium. They spent many hours at the horse races and enjoyed gambling at casinos. Bert was conservative with his spending; in his own words: CHEAP!
Bert, Jr. followed in his father's footsteps and together they spent many years downtown at the oil and gas company founded by his beloved late grandfather. Four decades with their faithful assistant, Barbara, and the last 15 years with much loved stepdaughter, Courtney. Many summers Bert and his darling daughter Dottie took "driving trips" around the US. Visiting universities and sightseeing American landmarks. He was a super dad to stepsons Dustin and Breck. Annually, he took young Breck to the Fair and to buy Pokémon cards; he considered these to be important activities. Bert and Dustin always touched base on "who is going to win the game" and what is the "line"? The family also enjoyed playing golf together in Steamboat Springs in the summer. Bert absolutely adored the family Papillion, his little sidekick Arrow! Arrow received daily "massages" and treats from his Gramps. Together they napped in the afternoon. He even requested Arrow come stay with him in the hospital. The step-grandchildren knew they were loved by Gramps. When they were coming over, he would come home early from the office. Friends were always important to Bert, but in his later years it was family.
He will be missed by family, many cousins, and friends. Similar to those that came and went before him, his dear Grandad Roland, Uncle Roland, and Roland, III, Bert enjoyed his life by living the way he wanted! He is survived by his father and best friend BERT, SR. aka "Boss," with wife CHARME aka "Mombo", brother BILLY Bond, daughter DOTTIE Bond, stepsons DUSTIN Doan (Stephanie), BRECK Gallini, and stepdaughter COURTNEY Villasana (Mark), step-grandchildren Kebi, Sophie, Dominic, Mason, Mia, Addie, Charlotte, and Seth, and loyal housekeeper Juanita Ramirez.
Services with be held Friday, October 22, at 2:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Reception to follow.
