Jim grew up in east Dallas and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Volunteering for the draft at 18, he was stationed in El Paso, Texas, during the Korean War. He graduated from The University of North Texas after his marriage to Sandra Harwell and the birth of their first son Scott.
Jim’s career was spent appraising commercial real estate and industrial machinery & equipment. He was a longstanding member of the American Society of Appraisers and was a published author with the International Association of Assessing Officers.
Jim was a founder of Solar Soccer Club. Solar is now an internationally recognized youth organization that has ties to Chelsea F.C. of the Barclays Premier League, London, England.
Jim’s favorite pastimes included riding motorcycles, karate, weight lifting, coaching soccer and drinking beer.
Survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra, sons James Scott Mauney and wife Natalie, Wesley Russell Mauney and wife Ashley, granddaughter Ellery Wrynn Mauney and granddaughter Ashley Borgardt and husband Brandon and great-granddaughters Joslyn and Taylor of San Diego, California.
Visitation will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 18, 2018, followed by a chapel service at 3:00 PM.
