James Coleman (JC) Mitchell 1932-2021

James Coleman (JC) Mitchell born September 19, 1932. Died peacefully at his home, on May 03, 2021. Survivors include: His daughters, Kimberly Mitchell Brooks of Forney, TX and Sherry Lynn Mitchell of Terrell, TX. His son-in-law Ken Brooks of Forney, TX. Grandchildren: Chase Humphrey and Casey Humphrey. Great Grandchildren: Rylan Humphrey and Caleb Humphrey. Brother, Lee Roy Mitchell and sister-in-law Tandy Mitchell. Nephews: Roy Lee Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell and Douglas Pregrove. Nieces: Vicki Roberts, Kathy and Kelly Lee. 7 grandnieces and 1 grandnephew. Caregiver and dear friend: Leticia Segura (Lettie). Cousins: Nita Rea Rector, Roy and Robert Snyder. Longtime friend and business partner Ken Menard.

Predeceased family members include his former wife and mother of his children, Virginia Mitchell (Ginger), his father Milburn (Jack) Mitchell, and his mother Vince Ella (Margaret) Mitchell.

Athletically gifted, JC’s football accomplishments were renowned, earning him the highest individual scorer in the State of Texas. In 1954 JC enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the military police in the Korean War. JC then returned home and began his career in the movie theater business. He founded Trans Texas Amusements in 1981 and Starplex Cinemas and continued in the movie theater business until his retirement in 2005.

JC loved Labrador Retrievers, bass fishing, and cutting horses. He was a member of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, National Association of Movie Theater Owners, and National Cutting Horse Association. Graveside Services will be at 11a.m., on May 06, 2021, at Laurel Land Memorial Park.
