James F. “Jim” Sullivan passed away peacefully following brief illness on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. He was 92. His passing ended a remarkable life centered on the tireless pursuit of building better mousetraps – or, in Jim’s case, machinery for processing solid mixtures – and a tremendous devotion to family.
Jim was born on April 2, 1926, in Blackduck, MN, to James and Josephine Sullivan. He was recruited into the Navy’s V-12 officer training program during WWII and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also served in the Naval Reserves during the Korean conflict. He married his beloved wife Bernice “Bunny” Dekko in 1949; their love lasted over 70 years. Jim and Bunny bought a small machinery manufacturing firm. Originally Sutton, Steele, and Steele, the company was renamed Triple/S Dynamics, and he devoted his career to building that family business. His work ethic was strong, his tenacity remarkable and his integrity impeccable. Jim also pursued his passion for aviation, and owned and flew a number of different small aircraft.
Jim is survived by his sister, Jean Dreher, two sons, Jim (Patricia) and Jeff (Mari), grandchildren Lesli (Tod), Jimmy, Jeffrey and great-grandchildren Ella and Clara. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved Bunny, his sister Virginia and grandson Patrick.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 12:00 PM, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home located at 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX, 75225. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Union Gospel Mission Dallas.
