James Riley Winchester

James (Jim) Riley Winchester, age 91, passed away September 3, 2023 ,at his home of 71 years in Dallas, Texas and was born to Carry and Emmitt Winchester. Jim served in the United States Army, serving 3 tours in Korea. He married Virginia Dimple Peek Winchester November 5, 1952 in Rockwall ,Texas, and the couple had 3 children, William Clydus (Skip), Nellie Elizabeth (Nell) and Rhonda Lynn. He worked as a field engineer for Dresser Industries for over 25 years. Jim was also the owner and driver of racecars. Both he and wife worked at the State fair of Texas for over 20 years in one way or another. That was his happy time, even if he didn’t admit it. But what he was best known for was being a “Jack of all Trades Master of None." He was loving known as “Pop” to everyone he met in the last ten years.

Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Dimple Peek Winchester. Left to cherish his memory is daughter, Rhonda Lynn Mitscher; granddaughter and grandson in-law, Melissa Ann and Frank Christopher Houston; great-grandkids, Celest Cheyenne, Micha Jane and Frank loving known as Junior; granddaughter, Krissy Long; great-grandkids, Kyra,Ricky, Adaline Long; granddaughter Sheri Gray; great-grandkids Bobbie and James Gray; daughter Nellie Winchester; son and daughter in law, William Clydus (Skip) and Shirley Winchester; grandson, James Terry Winchester and 4 children, Karla Pullin and 2 children, James Robert and Lisa Winchester with 3 children, Herschel Dale and daughter Mia Winchester; 3 nephews, Johnny, Randy, Michael and Derek Long grandson in-law as well as many friends, neighbors and Bruce the dog.

A visitation for James will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Grove Hill Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228.
