Jane Vanderpool Ligon

Lucretia Jane Vanderpool was born in Dallas on April 6, 1932 to Agnes Evans and W.T. Vanderpool. She lived a long life marked by determination, loyalty, and a deep devotion to her family. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1949, then attended SMU where she graduated with a degree in Education. At SMU, she met the handsome football player Wayne Ligon, and they married at 21 years old, just before graduation. Jane began teaching first grade that fall, while Wayne began medical school. Together they began a lifetime rooted in commitment, perseverance and unwavering love. They raised their children Bill, Lee and Jenni and she poured her heart into motherhood.

She endured profound loss with grace, having been preceded in death by her parents, her oldest son and her husband. Through every hardship, Jane continued to show resilience, strength and love to those around her.

Jane adored her beloved dogs, who were not pets, but true family members. From their first Christmas puppy, Fluffy Ruffles Vanderpool Ligon to their final Westie, Lottie Dozier Vanderpool Ligon, each one held a special place in her heart. The family takes solace in imagining them waiting to greet her with tails wagging.

One of her greatest joys was becoming a grandmother to Molly, Casey, Sam, and Leila, whom she loved fiercely and proudly.

Jane is survived by her son, Dr. Lee Wilson Ligon and his wife Davette, her daughter Jennifer Ligon Lamoreaux and her husband Mark, her grandchildren, her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Grace Ann and Travis Vanderpool, her niece, Gretchen and nephew, Greg, as well as, many cousins.

Jane is also survived by her precious caregivers who loved her unconditionally and treated her like family. Her family is forever grateful for their care and compassion in her final years.
