

Janet Varon Calico was born to the union of Fred Calico and Margie Lee Pinkard Calico on October 5, 1950 in Dallas, Texas. She was the oldest of 14 grandchildren, and was the "hostess" for many family events. Janet was a product of the Dallas Independent School District. She attended Lincoln High School and was a Majorette in the Lincoln High School Marching Band. Janet was presented to society as a Debutante by Jack and Jill of America Inc. After graduating from Lincoln High School, in 1968, she furthered her education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Most of her career was in the trucking industry as an Executive Assistant. She worked for McClean Trucking, Central Trucking, and Watkins Motor Lines which eventually became FedEx National LTL and FedEx Freight. For 22 years beginning in February of 1992, “Miss Calico” as she was always called, was the Executive Administrative Assistant to various company executives including the Watkins Motor Lines Southwest Region Fleet Maintenance Manager, five different Watkins Motor Lines Texas District Managers, and the FedEx National LTL Southwest Region Vice President. Miss Calico retired from FedEx Freight in August of 2015. She was a devoted member of St John's Lutheran Church, ELCA, in Dallas, Texas. Janet served as an organizer for Vacation Bible School. She was also very active with the Lutheran Women's group which required her to serve in ministry and travel throughout the United States. Janet is preceded in death by her parents, Fred Calico and Margie Calico. She leaves to mourn (4) Aunts: Gracie Taylor (Uncle Charles) Lubbock, TX, Ruth Hauntz, Dallas, TX, Emily Moore, Ft Worth, TX, Onetia Pinkard, Nacogdoches, TX, (11) First Cousins, (11) Second Cousins, God Daughter Krista Wilson, Special Friends Michael Lowen and Patricia Glasgow. Janet will be missed by a host of other Relatives and Friends.
