

Janice Lynn Dokes Brown was born on November 7, 1956, to Inez Elnora Hardy (Little Inez) and James Dokes in Detroit, Michigan. After the passing of her beloved mother on August 25, 1959, Janice and her sister, Alvanetta, moved to Grandview, Texas, where they were lovingly raised by their devoted grandmother, Inez Elnora Hardy. When Janice was two years old, her grandmother stepped in to provide the nurturing foundation that would shape her into the remarkable woman she became.
Janice accepted Christ at an early age at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Grandview, Texas. She was very active in church with the youth choir. During her schooling years, Janice was a brilliant scholar-athlete. She matriculated from first grade through twelfth grade in the Jeanette Sanford school system in Itasca, Texas, and later in the Grandview Independent School District. Janice was exceptionally active in school and participated in numerous sports, clubs, and organizations, including the State Championship basketball team and Future Homemakers of America. Her academic excellence and athletic prowess culminated in her graduation as valedictorian of the class of 1975 of Grandview High School. As a young mother, her remarkable resilience and determination enabled her to overcome every challenge she faced. Following her high school graduation, Janice continued her educational journey at Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas, where she further developed her intellectual abilities.
Janice married Robert Lee Clark, and to this union, two cherished children were born—Robert Clark, Jr. and Janetta Clark. After their divorce, she continued raising her children with unwavering dedication in Grandview and later on in the Bay Area of California, including the cities of Benicia, Vallejo, Palo Alto, and Hayward. In 2000, she returned to Dallas to lovingly support her aging grandmother. During this time, she rekindled her romance with her childhood sweetheart, Teddy Brown, and they were joyfully married on June 21, 2002.
Janice was a highly skilled and accomplished professional who built an impressive career spanning over 30 years in the finance and legal industries. Her diverse expertise included roles as a Paralegal, Compliance Specialist, Bankruptcy Auditor, and Independent Petroleum Landman. She also served as an office manager for Singing Hills Funeral Home. Janice was passionate about connecting with people and was recognized as a strong, knowledgeable leader who truly excelled at her craft.
Family was everything to Janice. She proudly served as the family's honorary "picture taker”, ensuring that every holiday, family gathering, and celebration was beautifully documented with countless photographs and precious memories. Janice was deeply passionate about genealogy and spent countless hours researching the family's rich history, inspiring all of her family to treasure and preserve the family legacy for generations to come. She was a radiant light whose bright spirit and infectious joy touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Left to cherish her phenomenal intellect, infectious laughter, and beautiful memory is her beloved husband of 23 years, Teddy Brown; her devoted children, Robert Clark, Jr. and Janetta Clark; her cherished sisters, Alvanetta Jones, Omeka Dokes and Afra Midaya Barnett; her bonus children- Pamela Bridgewater, Earnest Crownover, Nikita Horne, Shanell Crownover and Teddy McKnight. Her treasured grandchildren: Jahnel Clark-Foston, Jahnae Clark, Marlon (DJ) Howard, Jr., Raphael Lee Clark, and Rysa-Lee Brooklyn Clark-Hall; Eddie Ray Bridgewater, Uniqua Hamilton, Kenneth Bridgewater, Timothy Crownover, Courtney Crownover, Brinton Fuller, Lylon Fuller, Joe Johnson, Michael Horne, Amaya Holmes, Rochelle McKnight, Kobi McKnight, Trinity McKnight and Kyrie McKnight. She has 13 great-grandkids and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
A visitation for Janice will be held Friday, September 12, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Singing Hills Funeral Home, 6221 UNIVERSITY HILLS BLVD, DALLAS, TX 75241. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 13, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 401 E Criner St, Grandview, TX 76050.
