Jean Ann Herrmann, age 90, passed away peacefully the morning of March 18, 2018. Jean Ann was born on October 23, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY. As a child, she developed a love for dance which carried through her entire life. She held several jobs as a teenager and then worked as a bookkeeper in a bank after she graduated high school. In 1949 she met Eugene Herrmann at a Knights of Columbus dance and they were married on October 6, 1951. They lived in Elmont, NY for 30 years and raised four children.
Besides being a full-time wife and mother, she found time to volunteer. She was a member of the St. Boniface Church Altar & Rosary Society, Society of Catholic Daughters and Mother’s Club for the school. She was also an assistant cub scout leader for her sons. In later years, she volunteered as a “pink lady” at Franklin General Hospital.
When she moved to Cape Coral, FL for retirement Jean Ann worked on the voting polls for local politicians and learned to play golf and Mahjong.
Once her husband, Gene, developed Alzheimer’s disease, she became active in the Alzheimer’s Association and became a leader of a local chapter. They then moved to Plano, TX and Jean Ann enjoyed bingo, canasta, golf and her grandsons. Jean Ann loved dancing to “New York, New York” and performed at all the family reunions and weddings. They were married 55 years before Gene passed away.
Jean Ann is survived by daughter Terry Keller and husband Warren; son Steve Herrmann and wife Sharon; son Ken Herrmann and wife Debbie; daughter Laura Carper; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Visitation and Mausoleum Service will be held at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery in Dallas, TX. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Jean Ann.
