Jean was a beautiful person inside and out. She was a wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend. If you were lucky enough to be in Jean’s life she brought you into that endless loves she had in her heart. That extended well beyond her immediate family and friends to the check out lady at Albertson’s, the owner of the dry cleaners and all the doctors and nurses who helped her these last several years.

Jean grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Samuell High School. The story goes that she was at a party and her eyes locked with a man across the room and it was love at first sight. That man was her husband of 45 years, Marvin Hester and she was the love of his life. She dedicated her life to raising her children, Shelly Hester Hemler and David Hester. She brought their spouses into the family fold as if they were her own children, Joe Hemler and Tara Hester. She loved her grandchildren with everything she had, Grace Hester, Carter Brozovich, Hudson Hemler, Ashton Hester, and Emma Hemler. She was loved dearly by her mother Jeannine Edwards and her sisters Jan Reynolds and Julie Griffin. Her daddy David Edwards was no doubt waiting for her on the other side. We all love her so much and are so grateful that we got to feel the power of her love.

Jean passed away peacefully on Wednesday night. She fought hard as long as she could and then she fought a little longer. She wanted every moment she could with her family and especially her grandbabies.

Jean’s memorial service will be at Grove Hill Funeral Home Tuesday, June 5 at 2 pm with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial page with the St. Baldrick’s foundation, which researches cures and less toxic treatments for childhood cancer. Jean survived her daughter’s cancer when Shelly was one and Jean was just twenty-two. Helping other children and their parents survive cancer would have brought her joy.

From the first time we met Jean, we clicked immediately...and our family love story began. It was the beginning of our story with the preparation of our children's wedding, many holiday and family celebrations, family trips, and summer getaways. Jean always wore a smile, loving every minute of life with her family and friends. Her love and positive personality lit up the room. We loved Jean so much, and are so saddened by her passing. We will cherish each memory of our time with her. Our love and prayers go out to Marvin, Shelly, David, and their families.

I was saddened when I read of Jean's passing. She was always so polite & friendly when I stopped by those Tuesday mornings. And I don't think it had anything to do with having donuts when I walked in. She will be missed. My prayers to Marvin & his family. Mack Cotton
