

Jean Moffitt Pearce of Dallas, Texas passed away December 28, 2011 surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents Frances Mims and Vernon Moffitt, husband E. Clay Pearce, and son Steven Moffitt Hodges. Jean was born on March 23, 1930 in Handley, Texas. She was raised in Burleson, Texas where she attended Polytechnic High School, then went on to North Texas State College in Denton. She married E. Clay Pearce of Dallas in 1960 upon his return from the Navy. Jean and Clay loved playing tennis at Brook Hollow Golf Club in Dallas and WCT Lakeway in Austin, summers on the beach in La Jolla, CA and Maui, HI, winters in the mountains of Santa Fe, NM, collecting and touring classic cars, and exploring places unknown together. Jean served two terms as the chairwoman for the St. Michael Woman’s Exchange, played a supportive role in the early days at The Episcopal School of Dallas, volunteered at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, and while in Santa Fe gave her time to Open Hands as well as ministries that cared for both the elderly and new mothers. Throughout her life Jean had a strong sense of patriotism. She loved gardening, arranging flowers, cooking, entertaining, gift wrapping, reading, the company of her Maltese dogs, and cheering on Cowboy and Longhorn football. She cherished her alone time, as well as times spent with family and friends. Jean is survived by her sons Doug Hodges (Robin) of Celina, Texas, C. Matson Pearce of Dallas, daughter-in-law Love Nance of Austin,TX, and granddaughters Kate Hodges of Dallas, Chrisey Hodges Billman (Brett) of Richardson, and Allison Hodges of Celina. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Dallas, on Thursday, January 5, 2011, at 11:00 am.
