Jean was born in Livingston, Alabama and was an identical twin. Identical twins were a rare occurrence in the 1920’s especially in rural Alabama. This led to folks coming from near and far to view the Scales twins and they were the subject of feature articles in many Southern newspapers.
Jean was the epitome of a Southern Lady, gracious, warm and hospitable. She loved to entertain friends but she especially enjoyed being around family and relatives from Alabama and Texas. She cherished time spent with her Alabama aunts and loved the trips she and John took to College Station and Texas A & M.
Jean was preceded by her loving husband of 61 years, John, her mother and father, Will T. and Gladys Scales; and her identical twin sister Joyce Olsen.
She is survived by son John Potts and wife Bobe, daughter Anne Dufour and husband Steve and daughter Joyce Horton and husband Bill, also by six grandchildren Jess Griffith and wife Courtney, Amy Feezor, Billy Horton, Blake Potts and wife Beth, Alicia Ashworth and Christopher Waide as well as eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday May 28, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Calvary Hill Mausoleum North Chapel, with Msgr. Milam Joseph presiding. Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. and visitation will be held Monday May 27, 2013 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
