Jeanette Harmon Weiner was born in El Paso, Texas August 18, 1937. She died in Dallas, Texas, on June 19, 2021. Jeanette and her sister Barbara were raised in Memphis, Tennessee by their grandmother, Ada Smith. At age 18, Jeanette joined the Dallas workforce as a receptionist. She then became a statistical typist and was employed by CPA firms for 30 years. Over that time, she became an office manager with responsibility for hiring and firing of staff, while continuing to serve as assistant
to a managing partner.
Jeanette lost her first two children to complications of premature birth. She was later blessed by the birth of her son Darrel and her daughter Holly. Jeanette raised Darrel and Holly, attending their athletic events and school functions while working full time, commuting from DeSoto, Texas, to downtown Dallas. In 1978 she married Dallasite Dr. Myron (Mike) Weiner, with whom she moved to New York City for a
year of additional medical training. After returning from New York in 1985, she served as assistant to the Director of Development at SMU. A year later she retired, enabling her to devote full time to her family, her greatest source of meaning and of pleasure in life.
Jeanette was thoughtful, loving and enjoyed strenuous physical work in her home and yard. Her favorite attire was a simple long-sleeved top and frayed, faded jeans. Jeanette had limitless compassion. She and her niece, Carol Ann Jumper, cared for Jeanette's mother and later for Carol Ann's mother during the long months of her final illness, when Jeanette commuted on a nearly daily basis from Dallas to Bedford,
Texas. Jeanette had strong emotional ties to all of her family, but her strongest were to her grandchildren Hannah and Samantha Harmon, with whom she spent many busy and happy hours at her home, amply supplied with cookies, candy bars, fruit snacks and soft drinks. Her motto was, "You can call me anything you like, but the name I like best is Grandma." Jeanette said "Mike and my children always could see the love that I had for them by the way I would glow with happiness when they entered the room. They knew they were loved!" And indeed she did.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her father, Eric Henderson, her mother, Margaret Hilbun, and her sister, Barbara Howard. She is survived by her husband Myron, son Darrel Harmon and his wife Lora, daughter Holly Pennett and husband Barry, stepsons Daniel and Gary Weiner and Gary's spouse Mary, grandchildren Hannah Harmon, Samantha Harmon, Carly Weiner, Madeleine Weiner, Lee Weiner, David
Weiner, Jack Weiner, niece Carol Jumper and her son Chad, and nephew Danny DuPree.
A private graveside service is planned at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 7405 Northwest Highway, Dallas, 75225, officiated by Chaplain Michael Davis of Baylor University Medical Center.
