

Born in New Era, Michigan, to Cornelius and Jennie Vander Veen, Jeanette graduated in 1943 from Shelby High School in Shelby, Michigan. In 1946, she graduated as an RN from Hackley Hospital School of Nursing in Muskegon, Michigan. Most of her 42 years of nursing were spent at Doctors Hospital in Dallas. Jeanette met Thomas Shelby Martin in Dallas, and they married in 1953. Their son Gary Wayne was born in 1955. The Martins made their church home at Dallas’ Casa View Baptist Church for many years; and while attending there, Shelby passed away in May, 1988. Jeanette later married long-time Sunday School friend Charles “Chuck” Young, who died in 2001. Also preceding Jeanette in death was brother, Joe Vander Veen, of Allegan, Michigan; whose wife, Seal, resides there. She is survived by son Gary, grandchild Carrie Martin Naugle and husband, Ryan of Austin, and great grandchildren, Shelby and Sadie Johnson. Also surviving are two stepdaughters, Julie Burleson and Toni Williams, both of Waco, and their children and Toni’s grandchildren, brothers Richard and wife, L., of Crossville, Tennessee, and Henry and wife, Barb, of Muskegon, Michigan, as well as children and grandchildren of her siblings. Jeanette also leaves behind loving nephews, nieces, many friends at Casa View Baptist, as well as at Park Cities Baptist where, until recently, she was a member and active in Sunday School. The family will receive friends at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on February 11, 2013, with funeral services immediately following. Interment will be held thereafter at Hillcrest Memorial Park Garden of Trees.
