Jerry Brown passed away on November 25, 2020 due to complications of COVID. Jerry’s life was an exemplary one in which she inspired many people and touched their lives in countless ways. Mrs. Brown graduated with honors from Oklahoma State University where she was later named as Outstanding Chickasaw Alumni. Jerry served as an Army WAC during WWII stationed at the Pentagon in the Reconnaissance Lab. While there, she developed the first pictures of the atomic bomb. She married the love of her life, Syl Brown, and they had two children, Michael and Ginger. Jerry was a dedicated, lifelong teacher in the Edmond Public Schools who after retirement continued on in the system as a substitute teacher until the age of 90. One of the greatest joys of her life was a visit from a former student. In her spare time, Jerry gave countless hours serving in various capacities to the FUMC of Edmond. Additionally, she enjoyed membership in Red Hats, Random Acts of Kindness, and multiple book clubs. After retirement, Jerry continued to serve others as she became a volunteer at the Edmond Hospital and was president of the group at one time. Her Chickasaw Indian heritage was of great importance to her. She participated in panel discussions and worked with the young women of the tribe. In 2016, she was named to the Chickasaw Hall of Fame. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Syl, and her son, Michael. She is survived by her daughter, Ginger, of Dallas, TX. Additionally, she is survived by her grandson Josh, of West Chester, OH and his children Carter and Cassidy; as well as, her granddaughter Ashley Calta, her husband, George, and their two daughters Claudia and Natasha. Her grandson, Ryan and his wife Kayleigh, and their three children, Matt, John, and Abby live in Houston. She is survived by a host of great nieces and nephews. Services for Mrs. Brown will be held in Edmond, OK, sometime in the Spring of 2021.
