The Life of Queen Jerline Cornish Moning
August 9, 1940 in Jacksonville Texas, Buster and Bessie Gillian received a gift from God, and they named her, Jerline Gillian. She did not remain in Jacksonville, her parents moved her to Dallas, Texas. Jerline attended school in the Dallas Independent School District. Later Jerline met and married Sammy Cornish, he later preceded her in death. Although Jerline enjoyed being a wife and the mother of 5 children, she wanted more. Therefore she attended and graduated from Madame CJ Walker Beauty School in Dallas, Texas. As a licensed Texas Cosmetologist, her clients, family members and others, often referred to her hands as, “blessed hands’. She left her mark on various levels in the Fashion World. For example, she was instrumental in creating goddess in the DFW Metroplex as she worked as a hairstylist at LA Petite Beauty Salon. With a heart of an entrepreneur, Mrs. Jerline Cornish Moning, became the owner and operator of J&M Beauty Salon. Mrs. Jerline’s love for hats and fashion, inspired her to become a Designer of women hats. Eager to do more for the beauty industry, she became the owner and operator of Designer Hats by J&M. Jerline led a full life, but not too full that she would not accept the proposal to become the loving wife of Mr. John L. Moning, who also preceded her in death.
Jerline, learned about the love of God and accepted Jesus as her Savior under the leadership of the late, Pastor Edward Calloway. She later joined Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late, Bishop Frank W. Smith. When her health began to decline and prevented her from attending cooperate worship, she would call and speak with her current pastor, Bishop Corby Bush.
Mama, Mother, Sweet Baby, Granny, Granma Dallas, these were the names that rang in the ears of Jerline Cornish Moning from her children whom she showered with love and from her grandchildren who held her heart in their hands. Family time was important to Jerline, she enjoyed laughter, singing, sneaking into movie theaters and playing checkers. It was often said to her, “nobody can rub a back like you”. She touched many with her hands and her heart. You were a better person after meeting her. She was soft spoken most of the time, however, if needed she possessed a roar, that would make you stand up and pay attention. Her family knows how to love because they were loved by her.
Aunt Jewel, Aunt Jerline, Jer, Mrs. Jerline and Jerri, were names that were spoken by nieces, siblings, and friends. When they were in her presences they knew that they were loved. She is gone but will never be forgotten!
Jerline was preceded in death by her, Parents: Buster and Bessie Gillian, Husbands: Sammy Cornish and John L, Moning; Son: Anthony Ray Gillian, Grandson: Donald Gillian Jr. Brothers: Carvin, Robert, Davis, and Frenchell, Sisters, Doris and Gloria
Jerline leaves to cherish her memories, Sons: Donald Gillian (Doetta) Harold Cornish, daughters: Leatrice Green (Herbert) and Marsha Musgrove, Sister: Helen Smith (Michael), Best friend: Bobbie White, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other Relatives and friends.
