Our beloved Jessie Murillo, age 93, passed away on May 27, 2026, in Dallas, TX. also known as Jay, as Ma and Mom, and Grandma, as Tia and Aunt, as Great-Grandma and Great-Great Grandma and as a friend to many, has left her aches and pains and illnesses behind and is at peace in the arms of the Lord. Jessie was born on September 18,1932, in Dallas, TX, at the old St Paul’s Hospital. She was born into a loving family headed by her father, Felix Gonzalez, and mother, Maria Maldonado Gonzalez, which included six brothers and sisters, Victor, Trinidad, Felix, Mary Alice (Lecha), Robert, and Irene. They were a happy and loving family.
Jessie was enrolled in St. Ann’s Catholic school in the Little Mexico area of Dallas and attended there for a few years. She spoke often of memories from her school days and the nuns who taught them. She had only a few years of formal schooling, before her family had to go Indiana. This is where she met Genaro, working in the fields
Jessie married Genaro Murillo in 1948. They were married for fifty-nine years at the time of Genaro’s passing. The couple had four children. Genaro Jr., Jimmy, Sammy, and Jo Ann. Jessie was a loving wife and an incredible mother and homemaker. Jessie dedicated her life to her husband and children. Taking care of each one of them, always putting them and their needs in front of her own. Jessie worked at a tailoring establishment and spoke of it sometimes. She learned there to do the amazing precise hand-stitching she always did.
Jesse and Genaro bought a little house in Oak Cliff on Ewing. A house that was just right for their family. In her spare time, she loved filling her yard with all the plants and flowers, watering the plants in her backyard, cooking, and being with her grandchildren.
One year Jessie and Genaro received a card from a regular bus rider on the Dallas city bus that drove by their house. The person went on to praise their house and yard, and in particular how well maintained and beautifully kept they were. They expressed appreciation for being able to look at the beautiful house and yard as they drove by every day. Jessie and Genaro were delighted to have received this letter and truly appreciated it.
Over the years, working in her yard, and buying new plants and flowers, potting and re-potting and planting and digging up and being outside in the fresh air became Jessie’s favorite thing to do, after Genaro’s passing, besides being with family.
Jessie and Genaro have fourteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.
She was always happy in her little kitchen. She used every square inch of space, and it was funny how many dishes and glasses and pots and pans she squeezed in there. She loved to paint the kitchen and the walls. She color matched everything and painted all the trimming on the doors and windowsills and everywhere a matching coordinated color it was charming.
She made their house a home, a special home. Her walls at home were a testament to her love. Photographs of everyone. She loved and cherished her photographs and proudly displayed them all.
Jessie is preceded in death by her husband, Genaro, her son, Jimmy, her granddaughter Vicki, her parents Felix and Maria, and Jessie was the last surviving of her brothers and sisters.
We will miss her so much. But we all know she will live forever in our hearts.
