Jim “Monk” Temple, 76, died September 29, 2014, in Dallas, Texas due to a short illness associated with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana he was a proud member of Fair Park High School Class of 1956. Pursuing his love of baseball, he played for the Montgomery Rebels, a farm team for the Detroit Tigers. He also served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He retired from Mead Paper Products after 28 years of service. Having moved to Dallas, Texas in 1988, his following of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers brought him great joy. His love for his grandchildren was unending, as well as his support for Scott’s medical mission work with Mercy Ships.
He was preceded in death by his parents Genevieve and Clyde B. Temple, brother Billy Temple, sister Betty Mathews, and infant daughter Leslie Jean Temple. Those left to cherish the love he gave, are his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Trevenen Temple; son, Scott J. Temple of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Wendy Jones and husband Bryson of Richardson, Texas, grandsons Quinn and Fletcher and granddaughter Ivy Cate.
A Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church Shipp Chapel with Pastor Walt Lunde officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest, 7405 W. Northwest Chapel, Dallas, TX, 75225. Inurnment of cremated remains will be at a later date in the Shepherd’s Garden at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas 75220.
