Jo Don Campbell Cole was born in Childress, Texas, on August 24, 1928, and passed on to be with her Lord on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Jo was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Dollie Hill, her son Michael, her three siblings, two nephews, and her husbands, Donald D. Campbell and Kenneth M. Cole, Jr.
Jo began a long and outstanding career as a secretary/administrative assistant with the Veterans Administration in the VA Contact Office in Childress, Texas, in 1952. She then transferred to the Dallas Regional VA Office and Hospital where she worked until 1985, except for a time off to raise her daughter, Janis Campbell Lynch. She retired from the Dallas Veterans Administration Hospital in 1985, serving in the Director’s Office and as secretary for Chiefs of Staff, George A. Edwards and Charles Richardson. Dr. Edwards was her favorite boss and he often told her that the Hospital would not run successfully without her there to be his right hand woman.
In addition to her love of her family and her work, Jo enjoyed traveling, going to the casinos with her senior friends, and collecting and selling antiques and other collectibles.
Jo is survived by her daughter, Janis Campbell Lynch, Jan’s husband, Jerry Lynch, and her two grandchildren, Samuel and Laura. Surviving her also are 12 nieces and nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews, and many great great nieces and nephews.
Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Worldventure Missions (www.worldventure.com) which sponsors her great nephew and niece, Jason and Mandy Post, as missionaries to Ireland, or to a charity of your choice.
